Acting Together for a Climate Resilient Future

The climate crisis is no longer a distant threat, it is a present day reality impacting millions across Africa, especially the most vulnerable communities. From extreme droughts to floods, rising temperatures, and food insecurity, the consequences of climate change are intensifying. Yet, amidst this urgency lies a powerful opportunity: the potential of youth to lead the transition toward a more just, inclusive, and climate resilient future.

At CYDE Foundation, we believe that young people are not just victims of the climate crisis, they are catalysts for solutions. Our Climate Pillar was created to equip youth with the knowledge, tools, and platforms to lead climate action at the local, national, and global levels. We champion a new model of climate leadership, one that is rooted in education, grassroots action, technological innovation, and policy influence.

By working with schools, communities, researchers, and decision makers, we co build a climate movement that is youth led, locally informed, and globally connected. Whether it's through planting trees, advocating for policy change, or launching eco innovations, the young leaders we support are already shaping the future. Our mission is clear: to ensure that Africa’s path to development is also a path to climate justice, sustainability, and resilience. Together, we are turning awareness into action, and action into lasting impact.

Our Climate Strategy: From Awareness to Impact

Climate Education & Advocacy

Building a climate resilient future begins with knowledge. At CYDE Foundation, we believe that climate education is the foundation of climate action. Without a deep understanding of environmental challenges, their root causes, and possible solutions, it is impossible to mobilize the scale of change our planet urgently needs. That’s why we prioritize climate literacy and environmental awareness as a core strategy to empower the next generation of changemakers.

Climate education and advocacy: building a climate resilient future begins with knowledge

Our educational programs target youth in both urban and rural communities, ensuring that no one is left behind in the climate conversation. Through interactive workshops, school based campaigns, community dialogues, digital courses, and climate clubs, we demystify climate science and foster a sense of ownership among young people. Our approach is participatory and culturally relevant, connecting global climate issues to local realities in African contexts.

In parallel, our climate advocacy efforts aim to elevate youth voices in decision making spaces. We train young climate advocates to participate in public debates, national climate policies, COP negotiations, and community consultations. We help them develop the confidence, tools, and data they need to influence climate policy and institutional frameworks at all levels. From the classroom to the conference hall, CYDE Foundation creates a continuum where education fuels engagement, and where young people become credible voices for climate justice.

Community Based Climate Projects

At CYDE Foundation, we believe that the most impactful climate solutions are those that are rooted in communities. That’s why we design and support local, youth led climate projects that directly respond to the specific environmental challenges faced by communities across Africa. These initiatives are more than just pilot actions, they are living laboratories where innovation, inclusion, and impact meet.

Our community based climate projects span a wide range of sectors: from urban greening and reforestation, to waste management and composting, to rainwater harvesting and clean cookstove distribution. Each initiative is driven by young people who live in, understand, and care deeply about their communities. They receive the training, technical assistance, and micro grants they need to design, implement, and scale impactful solutions that build local resilience.

We also promote intergenerational knowledge sharing, working alongside elders, farmers, local authorities, and civil society to ensure that projects are culturally grounded and environmentally sustainable. Our goal is to transform communities into hubs of climate innovation, where young people are not only solving problems but also creating green jobs and inspiring others.

Climate in Morocco and Africa

Morocco has lived through several years of drought, falling reservoir levels and heat waves, and its farmers, cities and coastal communities feel the effects directly. Elsewhere in Africa, floods, cyclones, droughts and shifting rainy seasons threaten harvests, homes and health. The continent has contributed little to global emissions, yet it carries a large share of the risk.

That is why adaptation, which means preparing for the changes already under way, sits next to emissions cuts in our climate work.

Adaptation and mitigation, in plain terms

Mitigation reduces the amount of greenhouse gas we add to the atmosphere, through cleaner energy, more efficient buildings and better land use. Adaptation reduces the harm from changes that will happen anyway, through water saving, heat resistant crops, early warning systems and better urban planning. Communities need both, and each has a cost, so a good analysis explains the trade offs and does not present one as the answer to everything.

Local adaptation

How neighbourhoods, farms and small businesses can prepare for heat, drought and water scarcity at a cost they can afford.

Climate education

What young people and communities need to know about climate change, and the best ways to share it.

Evidence for decisions

Short, readable analysis that helps local and national decision makers choose between options.

What young people can do

Climate action does not belong only to governments and large companies. Young people can monitor local conditions, help neighbours cut water and energy waste, campaign for public transport or green spaces in their town, and challenge institutions with informed questions. Our youth programme aims to give them the knowledge and the tools to do it.

Questions we work on

  • Which adaptation measures give the most benefit for the money in Moroccan towns and rural areas?
  • How can climate information reach people who need it, in a language and format they can use?
  • What role can schools and universities play in climate education?
  • How do energy choices connect to local emissions and air quality?

COP31

The next UN climate conference takes place in Antalya, Turkey, from 9 to 20 November 2026. We follow the negotiations on adaptation, climate finance and youth participation, and we share what we learn on our blog.

Connections to our other pillars

Climate work depends on energy choices, benefits from digital tools for data and monitoring, and needs the energy of young people. To collaborate with us on climate, see how to get involved.
